With a vanity URL like: http://www.facebook.com/startabusiness I also think that it will prompt a much higher volume of JV requests which is part of the goal of vanity URL - to prompt an action or identity!

I was able to get one that describes what I like to help people do: http://www.facebook.com/startabusiness I will be doing a major launch related to this topic so it does not hurt to have a matching profile...

I started buying "vanity social domains" months ago. Such as Facebookname.com or Twittername.com they seem to work really well and I have seen these PHP redirects get ranked at the top of the SERPS

Hey Simon, Idon't think Twitter or Facebook profiles should be considered as properties such as domain names, but more as a service to users. Is it even allowed to have multiple accounts?

The real value in these vanity URLs is for connecting with friends, family, clients and customers more easily.

Consider a year from now, when someone wants to connect with you on Facebook, what do you think they are going to try first? Your given name. Just like the .com, you should own that first!

Of course, not everyone can do this.. so then keywords, such as your http://facebook.com/domainer may be a nice alternative :)
