Burger King Delayed In Russia After Domain Name Dispute
December 23, 3 Comments
Burger King has delayed the launch of its Russian expansion until 2010 after failing to register the domain name burgerking.ru.
A Scandinavian company registered the domain name and Burger King Corporation (who registered its trademark in Russia back in 1994) doesn’t want to pay for it.
It appears that this dispute is headed for the Russian courts.

Russia Adds Domain Name To Olympic Emblem
December 8, No Comments
This is the first time a domain name has been part of an Olympic host city’s emblem.
The word “sochi.ru” appears above the number “2014″ in an apparent reflection, symbolizing the southern city’s water-based location on the Black Sea.
“It’s very appealing. It’s very creative, innovative,” International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge said at Tuesday’s unveiling. “I think it will appeal especially to the young population.”
It’s been reported that the IOC president then asked someone what a “domain name” was.
For those that believe there could be an opportunity – the .com, .net and .org is taken… as is the .ru.
Police Lose Their Domain – Russian Snaps It Up
August 17, No CommentsEureka is the county seat and principal city in Humboldt County, California, United States.
It’s been reported that their Police Department has allowed their domain name to expire.
The new owner of eurekapd.org in Russia has allegedly kept some of the content.
Police Chief Garr Nielsen told the Eureka Reporter that he wasn’t aware of the domain name being taken over and made it clear he didn’t want the Web site online anymore, but the city of Eureka has not yet decided if it is a “problem” or not.
Well… my guess is that it will be – especially when Jack Bauer comes looking for an answer!
